Police have arrested a 36-year-old man who is believed to be involved in at least 4 cases of cheating island-wide.

 

2          Police have received several reports where victims were cheated of money paid to the suspect as fees to secure job offers in January 2015. In all the cases, the suspect had posed as a free lance agent and offered them various job opportunities with attractive salaries to work in Singapore. In order to secure employment, the victims were to pay a deposit ranging from $1000/- to $2000/. On each occasion, the suspect became un-contactable upon receiving payment.

 

3          Through extensive follow-up investigation, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division establish the identity of the suspect and arrested him on 15 January 2015 in Ang Mo Kio.

 

4         Investigations against the suspect are on-going.  The offence of Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 carries a maximum jail term of 10 years’ imprisonment and also a fine.
