             Police have arrested a 44-year-old man who is believed to have stolen a cashcard and a handphone from a lorry at the car park of Blk 84 Redhill Lane.

 

2              On 13 January 2015 at about 11.06 am, Police were informed by a 34-year-old male delivery driver that his handphone valued at about $800/- and cash card containing stored value of about $30/- had been stolen.  The victim had earlier parked his unlocked lorry at the said location and proceeded to the nearby shops to deliver goods. Upon his return, he saw an unidentified man removing the cash card and handphone before fleeing from the carpark.  

 

3              The victim immediately gave chase and managed to detain him briefly. Following a struggle, the male suspect managed to break free and fled. The victim was able to recover his handphone during the struggle.       

 

4              Through CCTV footages, officers from Clementi Police Division managed to establish the identity of the male suspect. He was subsequently arrested at Lengkok Bahru on 14 January 2015 and will be charged in Courts on 16 January 2015 for an offence of Theft from vehicle under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which carries a maximum punishment of 3 years imprisonment, or with fine, or with both.

 

5              The police would like to advise vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Secure windows and doors of vehicle at all times.

  2. Do not leave valuables such as laptop, mobile phone, cash cards, briefcase or handbag unattended or exposed inside the vehicle even for a short while.

  3. Remove cash card from the In-Vehicle Unit (IU).
