The Police have arrested a 42-year-old woman for misusing her boarding pass at the transit area of Changi Airport.

On 12 September 2018, the Police arrested the woman who had entered the transit area to claim Goods and Services Tax refund and had no intention to depart Singapore.

In the first two months of 2019, the Police have arrested 11 persons for the misuse of boarding passes.

The woman will be charged in court on 29 March 2019 with failing to comply with direction in a Protected Place. If convicted, she will be liable to a fine of $1,000 or to imprisonment for a term of 2 years or to both.

The Police would like to remind all passengers that the transit areas of Changi Airport are gazetted as Protected Places and passengers who enter the transit areas with a boarding pass should only be there for the purpose of travelling to their destinations.

Since 18 December 2018, those who misuse their boarding passes to enter the transit areas and have no intention to proceed to their destinations are liable for an offence under the Infrastructure Protection Act. The offender may be prosecuted in court and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $20,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both.
