The Police have arrested a 42-year-old woman for the offence of public nuisance under Section 290 of the Penal Code.

On 22 April 2020 at 12.48pm, the Police responded to a call for assistance at a KFC outlet at the NEX shopping centre.

Investigations revealed that the woman had an argument with the service staff of the KFC outlet when she was told to wait for her order. The woman was unhappy with the wait and shouted and spat at the staff.

When the Police arrived, the woman had already left the KFC outlet. Through follow-up investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established her identity and arrested her on 24 April 2020. Police investigations are ongoing. The Police are also looking at possible breaches of COVID-19 circuit breaker measures committed by the woman.

The offence of causing public nuisance carries a fine of up to $2,000. If the offender knew that the act will cause or will probably cause any common injury, danger or annoyance to the public, or to the people in general who dwell or occupy property in the vicinity, the offence will carry an imprisonment term of up to three months, or a fine of up to $2,000, or both.

The Police take a serious view of such egregious and irresponsible behaviour, especially in the current COVID-19 situation. Everyone needs to play their part by being socially responsible, observe good personal hygiene, and be considerate to others, especially service staff who continue to serve and are putting in their best efforts to do so, during this difficult period.
