Three Teenagers Arrested For Loanshark Harassment By Fire Within Six Hours

The Police have arrested three teenagers, aged between 14 and 15, for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment by fire.

On 24 September 2025 at about 3.05pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Boon Lay Drive, where the main door and gate of the residential unit were set on fire. A wall at the staircase landing near the unit was also scribbled with loanshark-related graffiti.

Through swift follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division and Criminal Investigation Department established the identities of the three teenagers and arrested them within six hours of the incident. One mobile phone, one black marker, one black hoodie and one pair of sunglasses were seized as case exhibits.

Investigations against the three teenagers are ongoing. For first time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years and caning of up to six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Youths should not assume that they can get away lightly with such crimes because of their young age. The Police will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone who deliberately vandalises property, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, and they will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not to work with or assist them in any way. The public can call the Police hotline at 1800-255-0000, or submit information online at www.police.gov.sg/i-witness if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
