The Police will be charging a 36-year-old man on 10 February 2026 for his suspected involvement in offences including using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty, dangerous driving, and driving whilst under disqualification.
On 8 February 2026 at about 1.50am, police officers were carrying out anti-crime rounds along Coleman Street. The officers spotted a man in a car and signalled for him to stop for a routine check. The man allegedly refused to comply with the officers’ instructions and sped off dangerously, endangering the safety of the officers. He drove his vehicle against the flow of traffic and subsequently collided with a taxi, before speeding off. No injuries were reported.
The car was subsequently found abandoned along Central Boulevard where items believed to be controlled drugs were discovered.
Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division and Traffic Police established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day.
The man will be charged in court for the following offences:
- Using criminal force to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 353 of the Penal Code 1871 punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to four years, or a fine, or both;
- Dangerous driving under Section 64(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to 12 months, or a fine of up to $5,000, or both, and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles; and
- Driving whilst under disqualification under Section 43(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 punishable with an imprisonment term which may extend to three years, or a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
Investigations into other traffic-related offences and suspected drug-related offences are ongoing.
The Police take a serious view against persons who obstruct public servants from carrying out their duties, and motorists who choose to flout traffic laws and endanger the safety of other road users. We will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
