Man To Be Charged With Evasion Of A Police Roadblock, Dangerous Driving And Other Traffic Offences

A 34-year-old man will be charged in court on 26 February 2026 for evasion of a police roadblock, dangerous driving and other traffic offences.

On 17 February 2026 at about 2.45am, Police officers were conducting a roadblock along Airport Road towards Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway when a red car failed to stop and sped through the checkpoint. Officers gave chase, and during the hour-long pursuit, the driver drove dangerously, running several red lights. The driver eventually abandoned his car in the vicinity of Edgedale Plains and fled on foot.

Through extensive ground inquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from the Traffic Police established the identity of the driver and arrested him on 24 February 2026. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was driving a deregistered car with a cloned number plate and without a valid driving licence.

The man will be charged in court for the following offences:

  1. Evasion of a Police roadblock under Section 26(5) punishable under Section 26(8) of the Police Force Act 2004. The offence carries a fine of up to $10,000, or a jail term of up to seven years, or both;

  2. Dangerous driving under Section 64(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961. The offence carries a fine of up to $5,000, or a jail term of up to twelve months, or both, and disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles;

  3. Driving without a valid licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961. The offence carries a fine of up to $10,000, or a jail term of up to three years, or both. Offenders may also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles;

  4. Using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960. The offence carries a fine of up to $1,000, or a jail term of up to three months, or both. Offenders may also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles;

  5. Using a deregistered vehicle under Section 10(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961. The offence carries a fine of up to $2,000, or a jail term of up to three months, or both;

  6. Using a vehicle without a licence under Section 15(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961. The offence carries a fine of up to $2,000;

  7. Using a vehicle with a false number plate under Section 129(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1961. The offence carries a fine of up to $10,000.

Commander of Traffic Police, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Tan, commended his officers for their tenacity in tracking down the driver. He said that the Police will spare no effort to bring to justice motorists who operate deregistered vehicles or commit serious traffic offences without valid driving licences. Such reckless and irresponsible acts endanger the safety of other road users. The Police will continue to step up their enforcement efforts and take firm action against those who disregard the law.
