The Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for his suspected involvement in three cases of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage to property that occurred in Sungei Kadut industrial estate.
The Police were alerted to the fires on three consecutive days between 10 and 12 March 2026 at 56 Sungei Kadut Drive, 51 Sungei Kadut Street 1 and 8 Sungei Kadut Crescent. Preliminary findings showed that all three fires were suspected to have been started intentionally. The Singapore Civil Defence Force responded to extinguish the fires on 10 and 11 March 2026. Members of the public extinguished the fire before SCDF’s arrival on 12 March 2026. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
Through swift and extensive investigations, officers from Woodlands Police Division identified the man and arrested him on 12 March 2026. A lighter and a pair of gloves which the man had purportedly used to commit the offences were seized as case exhibits.
The man will be charged in court on 14 March 2026 with the offence of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage under Section 435 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and shall also be liable to a fine.
The Police take a serious view of such reckless acts and have zero tolerance against offences that endanger the lives or safety of others. We will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
