Woman To Be Charged For Impersonating Police Officers And Using Abusive Words Towards A Public Servant

The Police will be charging a 41-year-old woman in court on 20 March 2026 for her suspected involvement in two cases of impersonating police officers and using abusive words towards a public servant.

On 17 March 2026, the Police were alerted to an anonymous post in a Facebook group containing screenshots of a conversation featuring vulgarities between an unknown user and an individual who had allegedly impersonated a police officer. Through follow up investigations, the identity of the woman, who allegedly impersonated the police officer, was established and she was arrested on 19 March 2026.

The woman is also believed to be involved in another separate incident of impersonating a police officer and an additional case of using abusive words against a police officer during a "999" call on 14 September 2025.

The woman will be charged with the following offences:

  1. Personating a public servant under Section 170 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 2 years, or with a fine, or both; and
  2. Using abusive words towards a public servant in relation to the execution of the duty of the public servant under Section 6(1)(a) of the Protection from Harassment Act 2014, punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 12 months, or with a fine, or both.

The Police take a serious view of individuals who impersonate public servants, including police officers, as such acts undermine public trust and may cause confusion or alarm. The Police also consider any form of harassment or abusive behaviour towards officers performing their duties to be serious offences. The circulation of unverified information purporting to be from the Police on social media further compounds the severity of such acts. Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
