The Police have arrested a 58-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted robbery.
On 11 April 2026 at about 4.20pm, the Police were alerted to a case of attempted robbery at a moneychanger along Simei Street 6. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had shown a handwritten note to the victim and allegedly demanded that he hand over cash. The victim refused, and the man fled shortly after. The victim subsequently called the Police. He did not suffer any monetary loss and was not injured.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTVs and Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division and Police Operations Command Centre established the identity of the man and arrested him within eight hours of the report. The handwritten note was recovered.
The man will be charged in court on 13 April 2026 with the offence of attempted robbery under Section 393 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than two years and not more than seven years, and caning of not less than six strokes.
The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders in accordance with the law. Members of the public who encounter such cases are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the Police as soon as possible.
