Teenager Arrested For Loanshark Harassment Within Fourteen Hours

The Police have arrested a 19-year-old male teenager for his suspected involvement in several cases of loanshark harassment. 

Between 25 and 26 April 2026, the Police were alerted to several cases of loanshark harassments at residential units along Tampines Street 43, Tampines North Drive 1, Yishun Street 51, Yishun Street 61, Sembawang Drive, Jurong West Street 73, Bukit Batok Street 32, Segar Road, Serangoon North Avenue 4, Sengkang East Way and Aljunied Crescent , where the main doors were splashed with paint and debtor’s notes were pasted on the gates.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division, Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Woodlands Police Division and Police Operations Command Centre established the identity of the man and arrested him within fourteen hours. Ten cans of paint, 13 debtor’s notes and one mobile phone were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 28 April 2026 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes. 

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way. The public can call ‘999’ if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
