The Police have arrested a 41-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of cheating.

On 3 July 2026 at about 4.32pm, the Police received a report alleging that a man had failed to carry out renovation work after receiving payment. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had claimed to be affiliated with a renovation company, and the victim subsequently engaged him for renovation services. After paying more than $86,000, the victim realised that the renovation works were not completed. The victim later discovered that the man was not a staff of the renovation company and subsequently lodged a Police report. 

Through ground enquiries, officers from the Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to be involved in other cheating cases involving a similar modus operandi. 

The man will be charged in court on 18 July 2026 with the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine. 

The Police take a serious view of such offences and will not hesitate to take action against those who commit cheating. Members of the public are advised to exercise due diligence when engaging renovation companies or contractors. Always verify the credentials of the company and its representatives and avoid making large payments before work commences.
