Former Wirecard Employee Convicted And Jailed 10 Weeks For Criminal Breach Of Trust

A former employee of Wirecard Asia Holding Pte Ltd (“Wirecard Asia”), See Lee Wee (“See”), was convicted on 10 October 2023 for criminal breach of trust. She was sentenced to 10 weeks’ imprisonment. See pleaded guilty to one count of criminal breach of trust. Two counts of money laundering were taken into consideration for the purpose of See’s sentencing.

See, a 30-year-old Singapore citizen, was the Controlling Manager at Wirecard Asia, which was part of the Wirecard AG group. She reported to Chai Ai Lim (“Chai”), the Head of Finance at Wirecard Asia during the material time. Chai in turn reported to Edo Kurniawan (“Edo”), who was the former Vice President of Controlling and International Finance in Wirecard Asia.

See admitted that on 5 October 2018, she had conspired with Edo and Chai to commit a criminal breach of trust against Wirecard Asia. In furtherance of the conspiracy, See received a sum of $47,000 from Wirecard Asia’s bank account that Edo had arranged with Chai to be transferred to See. The $47,000 was purportedly an employee loan to See. However, this was not the case and See knew that the purpose was for her to withdraw the money and place it at Edo’s disposal.

Chai and another Wirecard Asia employee, James Aga Wardhana, were sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment and 21 months’ imprisonment respectively on 20 June 2023.

Edo is currently at large. A Warrant of Arrest and an INTERPOL Red Notice have been issued against Edo in connection with the abovementioned offences.

Other aspects of the Wirecard investigations are ongoing, and the Police will continue working with the German authorities on the Wirecard investigations.
