Man To Be Charged For Criminal Trespass And Voluntarily Causing Hurt

The Police will be charging a 27-year-old man on 2 May 2024 for his suspected involvement in a case of criminal trespass and voluntarily causing hurt.

On 29 April 2024 at about 4pm, the Police received a report from a victim informing that a man, who was her ex-boyfriend, had allegedly trespassed into her house along Bukit Batok West Avenue 9 and caused hurt to her. As a result, the victim suffered minor injuries.

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 1 May 2024 at about 12.05am.

The man will be charged in court on 2 May 2024 with the offences of criminal trespass under Section 447 Penal Code 1871 and voluntarily causing hurt read with enhanced penalties for offences against victims in intimate relationships under Section 323 read with Section 74C of the Penal Code 1871. The offence of criminal trespass carries an imprisonment term of up to three months, or fine of up to $1,500, or both.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, or fine of up to $5,000, or both. For enhanced penalties for offences against victims in intimate relationships, the court may sentence the person convicted of the offence to punishment not exceeding twice the maximum punishment that the court could impose for the offence.

The Police have zero tolerance towards offenders who threaten the safety of the community, and offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
