How our dedicated officers safeguarded the integrity of GE2025.
By: SPF Insider
Rain or shine, night and day, our officers played a vital role to ensure the smooth conduct of General Election (GE) 2025.
Over the past two weeks, they were a constant presence behind the scenes and on the frontlines, working in partnership with other public agencies to ensure that all proceeded smoothly. Here are just some of the ways that the Singapore Police Force (SPF) supported GE2025.
Nomination Day
On Nomination Day, officers were deployed at the nine Nomination Centres to oversee public safety and security.
Many more were working hard behind the scenes, supporting their colleagues on the frontline, or standing ready to respond to any contingency.
Police Elections Permit Office
During the campaign period, permits for election-related activities (such as election meetings and perambulating vehicles) were reviewed and approved by the Police Elections Permit Office (PEPO).
Logistics Support
Other SPF units working hard behind the scenes included the Police Logistics Department (PLD). As always, PLD ensured that the large contingent of officers involved in frontline operations were well-equipped for their duties.
Election meetings are one of the distinct features of campaign period, often drawing large crowds. Given the number of election meetings held during the campaign period, it was imperative that the logistical setup onsite was swift and effective.
Despite the usually short turnaround times, officers from PLD took the lead to make sure that infrastructure and crowd safety measures were well-implemented before each election meeting.
Ground Deployments
Officers were on duty to ensure safety and security, as well as to manage crowds and traffic in and around the various election meeting venues.
As the crowds dispersed, officers also made sure that other road users were not unduly inconvenienced.
Command Posts
If you’re wondering what it takes to oversee and coordinate such multifaceted operations on the ground, look no further than the vigilant officers at various Command Posts.
From matters of safety and security to timely communications to the public, the team made sure that all went well.
Polling Day
More than 10,000 regular officers, Full-time Police National Service officers and Volunteer Special Constabulary officers were deployed islandwide to ensure a safe and secure polling experience for Singaporeans.
On the eve of Polling Day, our officers were involved in various roles such as the escort of ballot boxes and security of Group Assistant Returning Officer centres. On Polling Day, our officers started by escorting the ballot papers and boxes to the various polling stations.
Thereafter, officers were on duty at Polling Stations islandwide to ensure the safety and security of all who participated in the voting process. Whether it was lending a hand to those who needed help or keeping an eye on proceedings, our officers were ready from the early hours to when the results were finally known.
Deployments continued at the various assembly centres, and ended only with the escort of the counted ballot papers to Supreme Court where they will be safe-kept.
Thank you to all the dedicated men and women in blue who gave their best to safeguard the integrity of GE2025!
