Under the soaring ceiling of the Home Team Academy's (HTA) Harmony Hall, 19 ceremonial flags will stand proudly in formation at the Police Day Observance Ceremony (PDOC) 2025. Each flag, hoisted by National Service Inspectors (NSIs), represents a unit that forms the traditional parade contingent at our yearly Police Day Parade. Together, these flags mark a first in the Singapore Police Force's (SPF) history of Police Day.

Celebrated on 3 June every year, Police Day honours our pioneering officers and renews our commitment to the Force’s mission. This year’s ceremony will see the SPF House of Colours flag party make its debut, celebrating both our shared heritage and distinctive unit identities.

The Journey of Our Colours
The SPF House of Colours embodies the spirit and heritage of each Police unit while maintaining the Force’s unified presence. Introduced in 2015, the House of Colours system applies a consistent theme for unit logos while showcasing individual unit identities that have been built over many decades.

Each unit’s emblem within the House of Colours system tells its own unique story, reflecting each unit’s distinctive character, operational role and history.

Legacy in colours: The emblems of 19 Police units illuminate the backdrop as flag bearers stand ready, symbolising the Force's unified strength through its diverse formations.

This year, each ceremonial flag will be carried by NSIs. Having NSIs perform this duty adds another layer of significance to the PDOC. As the SPF commemorates 50 years of PNS in 2025, these chosen flag bearers represent the operational excellence and unwavering dedication of our PNS officers.

Led by Superintendent of Police (NS) Cyril Lim, the second PNS officer in SPF’s history performing the role of Ceremony Commander, the moment highlights the vital role that PNS officers play in ensuring Singapore’s safety and security.

A Flag Bearer’s Pride
For NSI Nicholas Chong Xin Le, carrying the Training Command's (TRACOM) colours at this year’s PDOC resonates deeply with his own journey in the Force. Having spent nine transformative months as an Officer Cadet within TRACOM's grounds, the honour of bearing its flag holds profound significance.

“TRACOM is where every officer's story begins,” reflects NSI Chong. “It's our first home in the Force, where we forge our foundational values and learn what it means to be a Police officer and a leader.” As one of the 19 NSIs selected as flag bearers, he sees his role as more than just representing TRACOM's rich heritage – it's about honouring the institution that has shaped generations of officers, both regular and NS, into guardians of Singapore's safety and security.

From training to ceremony: NSI Chong during rehearsals (top) and in his No.1 ceremonial uniform. For him, bearing TRACOM's colours symbolises both his personal journey and the enduring legacy of PNS.

“When I first saw our unit's House of Colours emblem during my TRACOM days, it was a symbol of the challenging journey ahead – a reminder of the countless officers who had walked these grounds before me and the values they upheld,” shares NSI Chong. “Today, as I prepare to carry this flag at the PDOC, it represents something more. Being chosen to carry the TRACOM flag on the 50th anniversary of PNS is truly an honour.”
