Man Arrested For Various Offences Including Allegedly Attacking And Injuring A Police Officer

The Police have arrested a 41-year-old man for various offences including allegedly attacking and injuring a Police officer.

On 15 February 2025 at about 7.35pm, the Police received a call for assistance in the vicinity of Block 81, Whampoa Drive. Members of the public witnessed a man attempting to hit a woman with a baton but the man managed to flee the scene before the arrival of Police officers.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity and location of the 41-year-old man. When confronted by the officers, the man refused to cooperate and turned aggressive. During the arrest, the man allegedly assaulted one officer with a baseball bat and threw a mug at him.

As a result of his action, the 49-year-old officer sustained injuries to his head and wrist. The officer was subsequently discharged with 2 days of medical leave.

The man will be charged in court on 17 February 2025 for the following offences:

  1. One count of attempted voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons under Section 324 read with Section 511 of the Penal Code 1871 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments; and

  2. One count of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty under Section 332 of the Penal Code 1871 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to seven years, and a fine or caning.

In addition, the man is under investigation for the following offences:

  1. Criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code 1871 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to 10 years, or with fine, or with both; 

  2. Causing hurt by an act with endangers the personal safety of others under Section 337(a) of the Penal Code 1871 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to one year, and a fine or both; and

  3. Intentionally causing harassment under Section 3 of the Protection from Harassment Act 2014 punishable with an imprisonment term of up to 6 months, or fine, or both.

The Police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence against Police officers or public servants who are carrying out their duties. The Police will not hesitate to take firm actions against those who endanger the safety of our officers.
