Teenager Arrested For Loanshark Harassment

The Police have arrested an 18-year-old teenager for his suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On 11 August 2025 at about 4.10pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Haig Road, where a debtor’s note was placed on the gate.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the teenager and arrested him within two hours. Preliminary investigations revealed that he is believed to be involved in other cases of loanshark harassment. One mobile phone, three bicycle locks and two debtor notes were seized as case exhibits.

The teenager will be charged in court on 13 August 2025 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance or disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way. The public can call ‘999’ if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
