The Singapore Police Force (SPF) welcomed 80 participants to the latest run of the Aspiring Leaders Programme (ALP) on 3 and 4 June 2026, offering an immersive two-day experience into life as an SPF officer.
First launched in 2017, the ALP is a carefully curated programme designed to give students from tertiary institutions a meaningful glimpse into what it means to serve in the SPF. Each year, the programme showcases visits to a different mix of specialist units and land divisions.
Day 1: From Investigation to Operations
The programme kicked off at the Police Cantonment Complex Auditorium where participants were given a brief introduction to the ALP, an overview of the SPF and foundation postings for officers.
The morning session also featured sharing by Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Roy Lim, Head of Special Investigation Section (SIS) and Superintendent of Police (Supt) Yeow Kai Ling, Head of Serious Sexual Crime Branch (SSCB).
DAC Roy Lim spoke about the role of the SIS and what it means to be an investigator, bringing the work to life with accounts of interesting real-life cases.
Supt Yeow then shared her journey in the SPF and the work that continues to motivate her. She spoke candidly about her experiences in the SSCB, the lessons she has gained over her career and what keeps her going – offering participants an honest and personal perspective on life as an officer.
During lunch, students had the opportunity to network with SPF Career Advisors to find out more about their policing experiences. After lunch, participants visited the Casino Crime Investigation Branch (CCIB) and Secret Societies Branch (SSB), where they learnt about the investigative work carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department.
Then, they proceeded to the Anti-Scam Centre (ASC) , where they were given a look at policing operations in one of Singapore's most dynamic environments.
Day 2: From the Ground to the Sea
On the second day, participants visited Tanglin Police Division, where they experienced the realities of ground policing through demonstrations of frontline capabilities and a showcase of police vehicles, equipment, and technology.
They then made their way to the Police Coast Guard (PCG) Brani Base in the afternoon, where they were introduced to the unique demands of maritime policing – safeguarding Singapore's waters and responding to incidents at sea. The programme ended with a dialogue session with DAC Daniel Seah, Deputy Commander of PCG.
Looking Ahead
For the participants, the two days offered more than just information – they offered inspiration. Whether it was the intellectual challenge of investigative work, the camaraderie of frontline policing or the unique demands of maritime operations, the ALP gave each student something to think about as they consider a career in public service.
SPF Aspiring Leaders Programme and SPF Book Prize
Following the ALP, participants attended the SPF Book Prize Selection Day on 5 June 2026 at the Home Team Academy, where they were assessed through scenario-based activities designed to test skills and qualities essential to policing. The top 20 performers received the SPF Book Prize, which includes a cash prize of $2,500, invitations to SPF scholarship engagement events and opportunities to be shortlisted for an SPF scholarship.
