The Singapore Police Force(SPF) organised the inaugural Global Community Policing Conference (GCPC) at Amara Hotel from 21 to 23 August 2024. About 200 participants from 31 countries attended the three-day conference.
This milestone event served as a platform for international Police forces to exchange leading practices in Community Policing and Stakeholders Engagement. Local organisations also presented their initiatives that saw the private stakeholders taking charge to address various safety and security challenges.
The conference was officially opened by Guest of Honour, Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State (MOS), Ministry of Home Affairs & Ministry of Social and Family Development. In her opening address, she reiterated: “Strong relationships and trust between the police and the public have always been important and have become ever more essential to effective policing in today’s interconnected world. By bringing together law enforcement professionals from diverse backgrounds, this conference aims to foster a rich exchange of ideas and create partnerships that go beyond national borders.”
Following MOS’ opening speech, AC Sherrin Chua, Director, Community Partnership Department delivered the keynote address for the event. She highlighted the importance of community policing and engagement in supporting the missions of SPF and police forces worldwide, which will strengthen the trust between Police and the community, and encourage the community to co-create and co-own the safety and security of our home.
Over the three days, there were insightful presentations and lively panel discussions on various contemporary global and local community engagement-related topics involving local and foreign speakers/panelists.
Day 1 of the conference focused on how community stakeholders could work closely with the police to fight crime and leverage volunteers to support the Police’s Mission. The following day, focus shifted to engaging seniors and youth in crime-fighting as well as partnering the community to combat scams. On the final day of the conference, the focus was on mobilising the community in countering terrorism.
In addition to insightful sessions led by esteemed international and local speakers, GCPC also comprised exclusive visits to the Central Police Division and the Anti-Scam Command, observing a live counter-terrorism Exercise Heartbeat, and experiencing first-hand the collaborative initiatives we employ to engage with our community.
In her closing address, AC Sherrin Chua reiterated that the GCPC signified the beginning to establish a connected Global Police Community. She urged all participants to continue with the bonds and sharing of best practices after the conference, and shared the following quote:

SPF will continue to work closely with foreign law enforcement counterparts and local stakeholders to build safer communities and stronger police-public relationships worldwide.
