A joint initiative between the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), SMS 70999 offers member of the deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech-impaired community another avenue of communication in times of emergencies.
SMS 70999 Emergency Service is only available to registered DHS members with National Council of Social Service (NCSS) via their Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWOs). Registered DHS member would also be able to use an unregistered mobile number for this service by including their NRIC number in their message.
This service is provided at no cost to the users. However, normal SMS rates will apply when messages are sent by the users.
To prevent abuse of the system, all unregistered text messages will be filtered out and an auto-generated message will be sent to the unregistered sender to inform him/her that this service is only for registered DHS member.
The success of this service greatly depends on the accuracy and details of the incident you reporting.
- Try to be as detailed as possible when providing your location (e.g. street name, block number, unit number, name of establishment etc.).
- Brief details of what has happened.
- Why and which service you require (e.g. Police, Ambulance, Fire).
Avoid ambiguous SMS abbreviations.
