The Police have arrested a 40-year-old Indonesian woman for her suspected involvement in a shop theft case at Changi Airport.
On 31 May 2026, the Police were alerted to a case of shop theft after two bottles of facial products, valued at about $736, were discovered missing from The Shila Duty Free store located in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 3.
The theft was detected after the store's loss prevention officer reviewed CCTV footage and observed a woman behaving suspiciously. The woman was seen entering and leaving the store without making any purchases. Following further checks, the loss prevention officer confirmed that the items were missing and lodged a police report.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV, officers from the Airport Police Division established the identity of the woman. Officers from the Airport Police Division arrested the woman before her departure and recovered the stolen items. Preliminary investigations revealed that she had concealed the items and left the store without making payment.
The woman will be charged in court on 11 June 2026 for the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, she may be sentenced to imprisonment for a term of up to seven years, a fine, or both.
The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and will not hesitate to take firm action against offenders in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders to prevent and deter shop theft at Changi Airport.
