The Police have arrested five teenagers, comprising four males and one female, aged between 15 and 18, for their suspected involvement in the theft of two motor vehicles.
On 6 June 2026 at about 4.35pm, the Police were alerted to a case of theft of two motor vehicles at the vicinity of Ponggol Seventeenth Avenue.
Through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the five teenagers involved and arrested them on 9 June 2026. Preliminary investigations revealed that they had gained access to the vehicles as the transponders were left unattended on the car tyres. The teenagers had taken the vehicles out for a joyride, and none of them possessed a valid driving licence.
Four of the teenagers will be charged in court on 10 June 2026 for the offence of theft of motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code, 1871. This offence carries an imprisonment of up to seven years and shall also be liable to fine.
Police investigations are ongoing against the remaining 16-year-old male teenager.
The Police would like to advise all motor vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Park your motor vehicle in well-lit areas;
- Do not leave your key or transponder unattended;
- Remove cash cards, keys and other valuables, such as laptops and mobile phones before leaving the vehicle; and
- Wind up all windows and lock all doors of the vehicle, even if it is intended to be left unattended for a short while.
