Man Charged For Possession Of An Offensive Weapon

The Police have charged a 61-year-old man on 25 March 2023 for his suspected involvement in a case of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

On 24 March 2023 at about 8pm, the Police received a call for assistance regarding a man setting fire to a housing unit at Lorong 1 Toa Payoh. The man was also allegedly seen armed with a knife.

Upon seeing the responding officers, the man purportedly brandished the knife and charged towards the officers. The man refused to comply with the officers’ instructions to stop his aggressive conduct, and officers had to use a Taser on the man to disarm him.  Necessary force was used to subdue the man. A knife, a Swiss Army knife and a hammer were seized from the man’s possession.

The man was charged in court on 25 March 2023 for the offence of possession of offensive weapon under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

The Police have zero tolerance towards acts of violence which threaten the safety of members of the public and public officers performing their duties, and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.
