The Police would like to alert members of the public to be vigilant against scams that involve the impersonation of food delivery platforms to take over victims’ accounts. This scam variant targets food and beverage (F&B) businesses on food delivery platforms. Since August 2025, there have been at least four cases reported, with total losses amounting to at least $42,000.
In this latest scam variant, the victims (i.e., F&B restaurants) would receive unsolicited calls from scammers claiming to represent food delivery platforms. The scammers would cite upgrades or connection issues to their point-of-sale terminals and ask victims to provide personal information, such as email addresses, mobile numbers, platforms’ passwords and/or OTPs, purportedly to verify the victims’ identities. In one case, a victim was asked to provide a photograph of his NRIC via WhatsApp.
With the phished information, scammers would access the victims’ platform accounts or email accounts in order to maliciously update bank accounts details, add spoofed email accounts and change account notification settings. The victims' earnings would then be diverted to the scammers’ bank account or payment service provider accounts. Victims would only discover the diversion when they made further checks with the platforms.
The Police would also like to remind members of the public to NEVER disclose your personal details or send photos of your identification cards to unknown persons. Members of the public are also encouraged to adopt the following precautionary measures:
- ADD – Add the ScamShield app to block and filter SMSes. Set up security features to email accounts (e.g. Use Google Security Checkup to enable 2-step verification for Gmail accounts. For more information on setting up security features for Gmail accounts, you may go to https://support.google.com > Account Security.)
- CHECK – Check for scam signs with official sources such as the ScamShield App. Call and check with the 24/7 ScamShield Helpline at 1799. Check with your food delivery platform on their official contact number if they are told their point-of-sale terminal needs to be upgraded.
- TELL – Tell the authorities, family, and friends if or when you encounter scams.
If you have any information relating to such crimes or are in doubt, please call the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000, or submit a report online at www.police.gov.sg/i-witness. All information will be kept strictly confidential. If you require urgent Police assistance, please dial ‘999’.
