The offence of driving without due care and attention under Section 65(1)(a) punishable under Section 65(5)(a) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine up to $1,500, or a jail term of up to six months, or both. The driver may also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
The Traffic Police (TP) takes a serious view of those who drive in a manner that endangers their own safety and that of other road users. Heavy vehicle drivers are reminded to exercise extra caution when operating their vehicles, particularly when navigating bends and turns, to drive within safe speeds, and to ensure they are well-rested before driving. The weight and size of heavy vehicles require heightened attention and skill to operate safely. All motorists are urged to abide by traffic laws to keep our roads safe for everyone. TP will continue to take firm action against errant motorists.
