Three Persons Under Investigation For Using Deregistered Vehicles And Other Traffic-Related Offences

The Police are investigating three persons, aged 16 and 22, for allegedly using deregistered vehicles and other traffic-related offences.

On 8 February 2026 at about 8.40pm, Police officers responded to an incident and found two 16-year-old male teenagers taking turns to ride motorcycle along Bukit Batok West Avenue 5. Neither possessed a valid driving licence. Both teenagers are under investigation for several traffic-related offences, including using a deregistered vehicle, driving a motor vehicle when the person is below 18 years of age, driving without a valid licence, and using a vehicle without insurance coverage.

On 15 February 2026 at about 10.15pm, the Traffic Police (TP) was alerted to a case of suspected use of false number plate at Vivocity Shopping Centre. Upon arrival, officers found a car with a false number plate matching the registration number of a legally-registered car of the same colour and modelChecks revealed that the car had been deregistered, and the 22-year-old male driver did not possess a valid driving licence. The man is under investigation for several traffic-related offences, including using a deregistered vehicle, using a false number plate, driving without a valid licence, and using a vehicle without insurance coverage.

These incidents highlight the concerning reality that deregistered vehicles continue to appear on our roads, including neighborhoods and shopping centre carparks frequented by families. Such vehicles pose serious safety hazards as they lack insurance coverage and may not meet roadworthiness standards. The risks are amplified when these vehicles are driven by persons without valid licence, creating potential dangers that directly threaten the safety of our communities and loved ones. The use of false number plates, particularly those matching legally-registered vehicles of the same colour and model, creates additional dangers as it makes it extremely difficult to trace the correct offender. This deceptive practice can result in innocent owners of legally registered vehicles being wrongly blamed for offences committed by drivers of deregistered vehicles, whilst the actual perpetrators evade accountability.

The presence of these illegal vehicles – in our neighbourhoods, workplaces, and places where families gather – puts everyone at risk. Vehicle owners have a duty to ensure that their deregistered vehicles are properly disposed of in accordance with regulations.

TP will bring to justice motorists who operate deregistered vehicles or commit serious traffic offences without valid driving licences. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected instances of deregistered vehicles or unlicensed driving in our communities. Road safety is a collective responsibility, and together, we can make our roads safer.
