Singapore Road Safety Month 2026 – Community Road Safety Day At Our Tampines Hub

The Traffic Police (TP) and the Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) launched the Singapore Road Safety Month (SRSM) 2026 campaign at the Community Road Safety Day which was held at Our Tampines Hub (OTH) on 30 May 2026. Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State (SMS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs, was the Guest-of-Honour at the launch event. Please refer to Annex A for the photographs.

Singapore Road Safety Month 2026
The theme of this year’s campaign is “Road Safety Begins with Us”. The month-long campaign aims to raise public awareness on the importance of collective responsibility for ensuring safer roads, strengthen education efforts on safer road behaviours, and foster a more responsible road culture.

In particular, the SRSM 2026 places a strong emphasis on addressing the risks faced by vulnerable road users, especially elderly pedestrians and motorcyclists who accounted for a disproportionate number of road traffic accidents resulting in injuries or fatalities in 2025. Elderly pedestrians face greater accident risks as they need more time to cross the road, while motorcyclists are inherently more exposed given the absence of a protective structure on motorcycles. A recent dipstick poll conducted with 1,000 Singapore residents also revealed that 76% of respondents cited impatience as the top reason why road users do not comply with traffic laws, a behaviour that disproportionately endangers those least able to protect themselves on the roads.

Community Road Safety Day

The two-day road safety exhibition which runs from 30 to 31 May 2026 at OTH,  is a key highlight of the SRSM 2026, and will bring road safety education directly to the community through interactive and engaging activities organised by various partners and stakeholders. It features a light-hearted road safety skit depicting everyday scenarios of distracted pedestrians crossing the road, to remind the public of the dangers of inattentiveness. Stage performances by local artistes and educational talks will also be held to engage the public on road safety messages.

Upcoming Road Safety Initiatives

In her speech at the launch of the SRSM 2026, SMS Sim Ann announced a new community outreach initiative aimed at embedding road safety education and inculcating a culture of road safety in our community. Targeted outreach programmes will be rolled out by Community Policing Unit (CPU) officers of all 32 Neighbourhood Police Centres to vulnerable road users, including elderly pedestrians and young children. Some of the engagement programmes include:

  • Storytelling and morning neighbourhood walks with schools to inculcate road safety awareness in preschoolers and educate young children about proper traffic light usage and safe crossing practices; and
  • Coffee sessions and neighbourhood walks with the elderly to help them identify safer routes to popular destinations such as markets, parks, and coffeeshops in their neighbourhoods.

To improve accessibility for the elderly and all residents, the Singapore Police Force will also work closely with the People's Association (PA) to bring hands-on road safety programmes tailored for different community groups to them, by leveraging PA’s existing events and programmes.

TP, SRSC, and the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) will also co-organise an inaugural Road Safety Carnival for migrant workers on 14 June 2026, at the MWC Recreation Club at Soon Lee Road. The carnival aims to equip participants with practical road safety knowledge in an engaging and accessible setting.

SRSC also unveiled a new series of four road safety posters (Refer to Annex B). The posters will be disseminated digitally to all public schools and put on display on public noticeboards, to further amplify road safety messages across the community.

Commander of TP, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Daniel Tan said, “Sustainable road safety requires collective community efforts. Every time we slow down, give way, or wait for the green man, we protect not just ourselves, but our neighbours, children, and fellow road users. This collective sense of responsibility is one of the most tangible ways we can make our roads safer for everyone. Through our 32 Neighbourhood Police Centres, we are embedding road safety into daily life and building the kind of long-term behavioural change that makes a lasting difference.”

Chairman of SRSC, Mr Patrick Kho, said, “This year’s theme for Singapore Road Safety Month is “Road Safety Begins with Us”. We hope that through this event, the community is reminded that road safety is a mutual and shared responsibility, and each of us has an important part to play in keeping our roads safe. Road safety begins with us, showing courtesy, giving way, and being patient with each other on the roads, whether you are a driver, motorcyclist, cyclist or pedestrian. Through initiatives like Singapore Road Safety Month, the Singapore Road Safety Council hopes to raise awareness, encourage safer behaviour, and foster a stronger culture of care and responsibility among all road users.”

TP and SRSC will continue to work closely with partners and the community to enhance road safety awareness and promote responsible road use across Singapore.
