The Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for his involvement in a case of loanshark harassment. 

On 23 September 2026 at about 3.55pm, the Police were alerted to a case of loanshark harassment at a residential unit along Segar Road, where the wall beside the unit was sprayed with black spray and a debtor’s note had been affixed to the door.

The man was detained and arrested by officers from the Jurong Police Division when he returned back to the scene to cause further damage to the wall by spraying another set of UML writings on the other side of the wall.

The man will be charged in court on 25 September 2026 under the Moneylenders Act 2008. For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment carries a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes. 

The Police have zero tolerance for loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately vandalise properties, cause annoyance and disrupt public safety, peace and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.

Members of the public are advised to stay away from loansharks and not work with or assist them in any way. The public can call ‘999’ if they suspect or know of anyone who could be involved in loansharking activities.
