The Singapore Police Force (SPF) Band brought its centennial celebrations to stirring heights on 21 September 2025 with a captivating performance at the DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre, marking 100 years of musical excellence.
The Esplanade provided a fitting backdrop for the centennial celebration, with Marina Bay’s iconic skyline complementing the evening’s musical offerings.

The concert drew hundreds of music lovers who gathered to listen to one of Singapore's most enduring musical institutions. Founded in 1925, the SPF Band has accompanied the nation through a century of transformation, helping to engage the community through music.
Under the theme "Crossing Borders," the performance showcased the band's versatility by taking audiences on a musical journey around the world, encompassing classical pieces and contemporary arrangements.
The concert opened with “Opening of September,” a bold fanfare that immediately set the celebratory tone. The crisp brass and rolling percussion filled the Theatre, drawing the audience in.

From there, the band shifted into “ASEAN Impression,” a piece inspired by the cultures of Southeast Asia. The music painted scenes of bustling markets and colourful landscapes, showcasing the Band’s ability to blend traditional motifs with contemporary flair.

The momentum continued with “Steam Train to Mallaig,” a lively number that mimicked the chugging of a steam engine. As the percussion section picked up the tempo, it felt like we were racing across the Scottish countryside.

Another highlight of the evening was “Go the Distance” from the movie Hercules. The well-loved melody was given an uplifting treatment, with soaring brass lines that evoked themes of resilience and determination.
The mood shifted as the band performed a Frank Sinatra medley. With swinging rhythms and harmonies, this nostalgic set transported the audience to the big band era, drawing smiles and foot-tapping from the audience.

Next came “La Virgen de la Macarena,” featuring a commanding trumpet solo. The music bore a festive flair, with dramatic flourishes that showcased the soloist’s virtuosity and drew enthusiastic applause.

With the sun setting on Marina Bay, the tempo picked up once again with “Waka Waka.” The iconic World Cup anthem had members of the audience clapping along. This was one of the most engaging moments of the evening, as music and high spirits blended seamlessly.

The evening came to a rousing close with “Singapura Rhapsody,” which wove together well-loved local melodies into a sweeping tribute to home. The bold and celebratory flourish earned thunderous applause.
As the Band’s centennial year draws toward its finale, with a final concert planned at the Esplanade for 30 December 2025, this performance stood out as a reminder of the Band’s history and its commitment to engaging the community through music.
