Five men, aged between 43 and 68, and two women, aged 23 and 45, will be charged in court on 19 November 2025 with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt. Collectively, three cyclists, three motorcyclists, one motorcycle pillion rider and one pedestrian suffered injuries from the accidents.
The details of the cases are as follows:
- On 18 July 2025, a 63-year-old male car driver was driving along Bukit Timah Expressway, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a lane change to the right. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries while the pillion rider sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and for driving without reasonable consideration causing hurt under Section 65(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 26 May 2025, a 23-year-old female motorcyclist was riding along Tampines Central 8, when she collided into a cyclist while making a right turn. The cyclist sustained grievous injuries. The motorcyclist will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and for driving without reasonable consideration causing hurt under Section 65(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 17 April 2025, a 52-year-old male car driver was driving along the service road of Block 516A Woodlands Drive 4, when he collided into a motorcycle while making a right turn. The motorcyclist sustained grievous hurt. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961. The driver was previously convicted in court in 2001 for the same offence.
- On 18 January 2025, a 43-year-old male car driver was driving along Ghim Moh Link, when he collided into a pedestrian who was crossing on green man while making a right turn. The pedestrian sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 17 January 2025, a 57-year-old male car driver was driving along Bedok North Road, when he collided into a cyclist while making a right turn. The cyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 20 November 2024, a 45-year-old female car driver was driving along Ang Mo Kio Street 43, when she collided into a cyclist while making a left turn. The cyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
- On 28 August 2024, a 68-year-old male car driver was driving along Hougang Avenue 10, when he collided with a motorcycle while making a right turn. The motorcyclist sustained grievous injuries. The driver will be charged with the offence of driving without reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961.
The offence of driving without due care or reasonable consideration causing grievous hurt under Section 65(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, motorists are liable to a fine of up to $10,000, a jail term of up to four years, or both. Offenders also face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
The offence of driving without due care or reasonable consideration causing hurt under Section 65(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $2,500, a jail term of up to 12 months, or both. In the case of a second or subsequent conviction, the offence carries a fine of up to $5,000, a jail term of up to two years, or both. Offenders may face disqualification from driving all classes of vehicles.
The Traffic Police takes a serious view of those who drive in a manner that endangers their safety and that of other road users. All motorists are urged to abide by traffic laws to keep our roads safe for everyone. The Traffic Police will continue to take firm action against errant motorists.
