Man Arrested For Housebreaking Within 13 Hours Of The Report

The Police have arrested a 63-year-old Singaporean man for his suspected involvement in a case of housebreaking.

On 17 March 2026 at about 2.30am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking at a retail outlet along Clementi Avenue 2. Preliminary investigations revealed that someone had allegedly damaged the rear gate of the shop and gained unlawful entry into the premises. An Arowana fish, valued at about $1,400, was reported missing.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of Police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division were able to establish the identity of the man and arrested him within 13 hours of the report. The fish was subsequently recovered but was found to be dead.

The man will be charged in court on 18 March 2026 for the offence of housebreaking in order to commit theft under Section 451 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, he may be punished with imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and padlocks when leaving your premises unattended, even for a short while;
  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in your premises; and
  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor lights and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and are in good working condition.
