The Police are aware of a public assembly which NParks has approved to take place at the Speakers’ Corner on 11 April 2026, following the organisers’ acknowledgement that they will comply with the conditions for public speaking at the Speakers’ Corner.
The Speakers’ Corner provides a designated space for Singapore citizens to organise and participate in assemblies without a Police permit, subject to compliance with the law and the applicable terms and conditions.
Specific to the event scheduled to take place on 11 April, NParks had reminded the organisers to ensure that the event and the associated speeches steer clear from matters relating to race and religion as well as ensure no participation by foreigners, which is a condition for all events at the Speakers’ Corner.
In addition, the organisers were also reminded that, as highlighted in our previous advisories on 18 October 2023, 13 and 15 February 2024, the Police have assessed that there are public safety and security concerns associated with events relating to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Such activities may have an adverse impact on the peace and harmony between different religions in Singapore, and heighten tensions between our communities. The conduct of any such events or activities at the Speakers’ Corner would therefore be a breach of the Public Order (Unrestricted Area – Speakers' Corner) Order 2025, as events and activities touching on religion at the Speakers’ Corner are not exempted from the need for a Police permit.
In this regard, there should not be any coordinated display of Israeli- or Palestinian-related symbols and paraphernalia. Organisers of the approved event must ensure that it remains within its approved scope, and must not introduce issues related to the Israel-Hamas conflict. Participants are similarly reminded that their behaviour at Speakers’ Corner should also comply with the prevailing regulations and laws.
Persons who disregard the applicable terms and conditions in Speakers’ Corner or the law, will be investigated.
The peace and harmony between different races and religions in Singapore should not be taken for granted, and we must not let external events affect the internal situation within Singapore. The Police would like to urge members of the public to engage in responsible and respectful discussions on this topic, online or otherwise, and avoid making insensitive or offensive remarks that advocate the political causes of other countries or foreign entities, and instigate or participate in illegal assemblies and marches. The public should also not engage in discourse or carry out physical protests and demonstrations that could hurt another ethnic or religious community’s feelings, or which are racially offensive in nature, or which could lead to public disorder and societal tensions. If we do not conduct ourselves in a responsible manner over this conflict, it can easily destroy the precious racial and religious harmony we have in Singapore.
The Police take a serious view of acts which could potentially harm the racial and religious harmony in Singapore. Any person who makes remarks or acts in a manner which potentially causes ill-will and hostility between different races or religious groups in Singapore will be dealt with swiftly and in accordance with the law.
